History of the Wolf company

Wolf Production Systems is more than 35 years old, but its roots go deeper: the great-grandfather of the current managing director already ran an independent blacksmith's business in Freudenstadt. In May 1946, his son founded the company “Ernst Wolf Feinmechanische Werkstätte”.

to the company history

After the construction of a new company building in 1955, the company passes smoothly into the next generation. The company grows under Ernst A. Wolf and is extended twice in the 1970s. The business changes from building scales to manufacturing precision mechanical parts and jigs and fixtures.

In 1988, the 3rd generation finally joins the company. At the same time, Ernst M. Wolf, who holds a doctorate in engineering, founds a new company: “Wolf Produktionssysteme”. From now on, the first soldering systems are developed and built alongside precision mechanics. Growth at the site in the city center is limited. In 1994, the construction of a new large production hall including offices begins and the current site is developed.

Modern machine series with integrated robots are soon created here. They are subjected to a standardization programme and from then on reach their customers as “Skyline”. In the year 2000, Ernst A. Wolf retires completely from professional life for health reasons and his son stands alone at the helm. Wolf Produktionssysteme takes over Wolf Feinmechanik and the two companies become a single entity. The company continues to grow thanks to its success and the first extension is completed just five years after the new building.

The first technology seminar is held at the company in 2004 to celebrate its 15th anniversary. The company is given its own “Tec Center”, a technology laboratory in which research and development is driven forward in-house, and shortly after the completion of a second extension, the financial crisis hits in 2008 and the company enters the field of photovoltaics. However, this sector also experiences a collapse. A radical change of course is implemented and the company benefits from not having neglected the loyal customers of the previous business areas. The guiding principle is: “Quality and innovation”. Wolf Produktionssysteme now sees itself as a process specialist. From project planning to final assembly, everything is carried out in-house.

In 2018, planning began for the next expansion of the company building, which is to be implemented by mid-2021. The expansion will increase the current area by around 50%. The new hall is urgently needed due to the space situation and will help to streamline production, among other things. However, the aim is not simply to expand the space, but also to achieve many optimizations. For example, a central warehouse and a modern goods distribution center are planned to improve the storage and logistics situation.

In addition to the improvements in the production hall, urgently needed office and meeting rooms are also being created. New social rooms and a childcare facility are also being built. This will enable employees to combine family and job.

The company has received financial support for the construction project from the European Union and the state of Baden-Württemberg. The ERDF funding is intended to promote measures that offer European added value.
